Our Day Program

At STAR Housing, we understand the profound impact that a structured day programme can have on the journey to recovery from addiction. Recognising the scarcity of such services in Bristol and its surrounding areas, we have made it our mission to provide a comprehensive programme that promotes abstinence within a structured framework. Our approach is grounded in the renowned Minnesota Method, a proven and widely respected model in addiction treatment settings.

STAR Housing Structured Day Programme

The Minnesota Method: A Person-Centred Approach

Also known as the “Abstinence Model,” the Minnesota Method is focused on the belief that everyone’s journey through addiction and recovery is unique. Our programme embraces this philosophy, offering personalised support and guidance tailored to meet the diverse needs and experiences of our clients.

Assessment and Treatment Planning

Our journey with each client begins with a thorough assessment, allowing our multidisciplinary team to gain insight into their unique circumstances and challenges. Through a collaborative process involving professionals and experienced support workers, we develop a comprehensive treatment plan that outlines personalised goals and objectives for their recovery journey.

Empowering Recovery, One Step at a Time

At STAR Housing, we are committed to providing a nurturing and supportive environment where individuals can embark on their journey to recovery with confidence and hope. Our structured day programme serves as a foundation for lasting change, empowering clients to reclaim their lives and embrace a future filled with possibility and purpose.

Key Components of the Day Programme

Our structured day programme is designed to provide a holistic approach to recovery, addressing the physical, emotional, and psychological aspects of addiction. The day programmes key components include:

  • The Disease Model of Addiction: Grounded in the belief that addiction is a chronic, progressive illness, our programme educates clients about the disease model of addiction, empowering them with knowledge and understanding of their condition.
  • Group Work: Our programme offers a variety of group activities, including peer-led support groups, group process sessions, and meditation groups. These sessions provide opportunities for individuals to gain insights, support, and encouragement from others who share similar experiences.
  • Family Support: We recognise that addiction affects not only the individual but also, their loved ones. Family members are encouraged to participate in the recovery journey, fostering healing and support for both clients and their families.
  • Psychological and Educational Components: In addition to the 12-step approach, our programme incorporates a range of psychological and educational elements to enhance clients’ knowledge and awareness of addiction. This includes relapse prevention groups, workshops on unmanageability and powerlessness, and holistic activities aimed at promoting overall well-being.

The ultimate aim of the day program is to offer a range of educational and therapeutic activities, including counselling, life skills training, and wellness classes, to help prepare recovering addicts for life outside of STAR Housing. Our support workers will offer guidance, emotional support, and assist with residents’ reintegration into day to day living when they complete their program.
